Wyndham Estate Show Reserve Shiraz

Cracka Review

Colour: Vibrant crimson red with purple hues.

Bouquet: Concentrated ripe plum and dark berry fruits with hints of spice and eucalypt.

Palate: Varietal Shiraz flavours of rich dark berry and plum combined with a chocolate and vanillin American oak influence. Ripe soft tannins, an excellent structure and velvety texture ensure rewarding drinking now, however the wine will also benefit from medium to long term cellaring.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Medium- to full-bodied; luscious, round black fruits; well-balanced and integrated French and American oak, sustained tannins. Not Hunter Valley. Gold medal Sydney Wine Show '06.

Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
A raisined, tarry, very oaky and alcoholic shiraz whose juicy aromas of blackberries, plums and blueberries are assertively backed by chocolate/mocha oak and reveal reductive, charcuterie-like undertones, smooth and creamy, its voluptuous palate of concentrated dark berries, chocolate and cedar/cigarboxy oak is framed by firm, drying tannins and finishes warm and spirity with smoky oak influences.

Complex; rich and ripe licorice, blackberry and earth; good length and tannins.

A fine red that marries traditional Hunter qualities with modern oak treatment. Its smoky, earthy bouquet of sweet leather and animal hide reveals Iively, but gamey aromas of plums, small black berries and dark chocolate, with undertones of cloves and cinnamon. Moderately full in weight, its vibrant palate of bright cassis/plum fruit and smooth, dusty oak is framed by firm, drying and fine-grained tannins.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; the savoury/earthy fruit aromas of the bouquet are balanced by well-judged vanilla oak, black fruits coming through on the attractive, smooth medium-bodied palate, finishing with gently savoury tannins.

Jeremy Oliver (1998 Vintage) says
Classic medium to full-bodied Hunter shiraz of magnificent depth, balance and longevity. Its sweet smoky leathery aromas of red berries and dark plums reveal complex and slightly funky reductive notes of earth and cooked meat. It's silky-smooth and ripe, delivering deliciously vibrant and spicy dark plum and berry flavours against an earthy background of tightly integrated oak and fine-grained tannins. It finishes long, earthy and savoury.

James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; an interesting array of savoury, spicy, gamey, leathery dark fruit aromas on the bouquet are replayed on the palate; the oak is well-integrated and balanced. Another convincing Show Reserve wine.

James Halliday (1995 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; the bouquet is ripe, with distinctly gamey varietal character supported by subtle oak. The palate is interesting, with soft, ripe plummy/gamey fruit and very soft, fine tannins. A genuine Show Reserve, even if it does fall away slightly on the finish
