It’s a good name Next of Kin it encompasses reliability, would we share it with our next of kin, of course but we’d keep the lion’s share for ourselves as this is seriously good Shiraz from the Margaret River. Here ripe red berries and spice collide with floral notes amidst French oak. The palate is rich and generous with ripe, forest fruits, nicely develop tannins and a lingering finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Deep red with purple hues.

Nose: Ripe, dark berry fruits with fragrant violets, lavender and spice threaded with hints of gamey characters and toasty oak influences.

Palate: A full-bodied, yet pretty Shiraz offering ample depth with plenty of inky ripe forest fruits, juicy black plums and a touch of Dutch liquorice and graphite. The concentrated fruit, fine tannins and taut acid backbone combine to produce a generous wine with an elegant structure and a wonderful persistence of fruit.

Cellaring: Perfectly approachable in its youth, this wine will comfortably cellar for several years with optimum drinking 2014 – 2016

"Wow, power and intensity from the west. From the area renowned for cabernet sauvignon, shiraz lives in the shadows, but should never be ignored. Earthy, tobacco and dark fruits give this wine a brooding intensity. Juicy blackberry and plum, coffee and dry, intensely gripping tannin add some real punch. Firm, youthful and very bold, this is attractive on many levels. Worth finding."

Now we're getting serious with this wine. It's been made with some cellaring in mind. The nose is all savoury fruit with a liberal dose of spices. On the palate the seamless integration of quality French oak and the deeply intense fruit is so perfect. The slightly sinewy tannin and grainy oak will gradually sit back comfortably as it matures.

Deep magenta; a restrained and complex bouquet of dark fruits, ironstone, wild thyme and licorice; the palate is medium- to full-bodied, precise and full of punchy tannins and lively acidity. Excellent value, and with a lot of time in the tank.

It's all estate grown on Xanadu's Stevens Road vineyard. All things told - it's pretty decent value. It has a few savoury tricks up its sleeve but the lushness of fruit - and oak - gives it lots of up-front appeal. Black cherries, plums, toasty/malty oak and then attractive highlights of sap, stalk, and bitter chocolate. Tannin is fine and intricate. Will appeal to both drinkers looking for finesse, and drinkers looking for bold fruit flavour. Excellent release.

This wine is apart in that it exemplifies a real density of black pastilles and plush, dark berry compote without for an instant compromising its Margaret River signature of honed tannins, gravelly texture and graphite-like finesse. There is a lift of violets and anise, perhaps reflections of whole berry ferment with a portion of viognier. This is one of the more immediately approachable of Margaret River’s A-league reds, with no shortage of medium-term potential.

This is a tremendous classy Shiraz that demonstrates how food this variety can be in Margaret River. Fits the style guide perfectly with its savoury sinewy characters and powerful palate. The tannins add a structural framework while the oak fits snugly into the loop. Excellent wine.

Contemporary and stylish, with a spicy, cracked pepper bouquet whose deep scents of blackberries, cassis, dark plums and chocolates reveal nuances of smoked meats and cloves. Smooth, long and even, it's medium to full-bodied, with a polished, satiny presence of intense berry/cherry liqueur fruit tightly knit with velvety tannins and creamy oak.

A little astringency on the finish but there is ample fruit weight and plushness. Has a spicy black currant character. Has about five per cent viognier.
