This wine is deep, dark purple-red in colour with a black cherry and dark chocmint

Campbell Mattinson (2006 Vintage) says
The thing I like about these Yalumba Single Site wines is their restraint. They're not in any way over the top. Dark and sandy, dense and yet soft. Full of inky flavour but then cedary, toasty - even minerally - through the finish. There's tannin here but it's superfine and part of the wine - rather than the master of it. Juicy, fleshy finish. It's a wine with a lot to offer - that doesn't put a foot wrong.

Bright colour; an aromatic blend of red fruit, blackberry, mocha and toasty oak combine effortlessly; the palate is dense and dark on entry, with red fruit providing light on the back-palate; tannic and quite oaky, but the fruit is there to handle the extract.

From Norm Hahn's property, this hails from his oldest vines, planted in 1970. It has an approachable charm with lighter berry fruits cloaked in earthy spices and showing some darker, tarry nuances. The palate isn't overbearing; instead it has a fine, focused shape with plenty of toasty, sweet-spiced oak running the length, finishing with mocha and chocolate flavour, tannins springing juicy through the finish.

Focused plum and rhubarb fruit is the theme here, supported by nutmeg and cinnamon spice, liquorice flavours and nicely textured tannins. Dark chocolate and coffee flavours move in on the finish, as the oak rises to meet the fruit. It will benefit from time for the two to meld.

The oak is quite prominent, with a slight desiccated aroma to the fruit; very ripe and certainly warm-fruited, the palate is ample and quite long

Yalumba's new single site range is showcasing wines from some of the top fruit that the Yalumba group have access to. Sourced from the Barossa Valley Floor this is a traditionally styled chocolatey Shiraz with some intriguing spicy, meaty notes adding complexity to what is a very attractive package.

Richness and length. From vines planted in 1970, this is my favourite from the range.

Evolving chocolaty/fruit-cake bouquet. Palate big and savoury and showing high level of alcohol.
