Yarra Yering Carrodus Merlot

Cracka Review

When crops allow, we make some single variety wines from Merlot and Viognier. These are always in very small volumes. Merlot and Viognier are sensitive to growing conditions, and sometimes carry very light crops, limiting our ability to make these wines every year.

Jeremy Oliver (2008 Vintage) says
Spectacularly varietal, this long, rather closed merlot will become more luscious and assertive with time, its earthy bouquet of cranberries, mulberries, dark cherries and plums knit tightly with cedar/vanilla oak, while its palate is long and sumptuously fruited, but holds back a brooding core of pure varietal fruit. Supported by firmish, fine and loose-knit and grainy tannins, it's finely balanced and finishes with refreshing acidity, exceptional length and brightness.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Good bright hue; a vibrant and juicy merlot, with cassis and blackcurrant fruit, the texture very good and the finish long; there is, it must be said, a hint of mint.

Jeremy Oliver (2007 Vintage) says
Clearly affected by smoke taint, with a modest presence of bright cherry, plum and dark berry flavour coupled with chocolatey oak and backed by meaty undertones. It's angular and bitter, with a lean, raw and metallic ashtray-like finish.
