Cracka Review

The Zonte’s crew are a bunch of vinous renegades on a mission to make bloody good booze. They don’t take life very seriously but they are very serious about the quality of their wines. The names of the wines seem to get longer with each release and this one is named after a Lake Doctor who brings cooling breezes to the vineyards. As refreshing as biting into a pear, it’s got a zippy palate weight and a tight, acid finish. Offers immense refreshment and perfect with creamy pasta dishes.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Pale straw with light grey hue.

Nose: Pure fresh pear and effusive melon and apricot on the nose and fresh floral scents weaving their way across the white fruit spectrum.

Entry: Just like biting into a fresh nashi pear, slightly chilled of course. Crisp and fine.

Middle Palate: Surprisingly soft considering the zingy start and following tight finish.

After Palate: The fresh acidity coupled with an enticing spice quality through the back end of the palate make this a really interesting but refreshing.

Finish: A seamless and zingy pure fruit finish. Refreshing flavoursome and fine.

In Summary: All in all a pure pear Pinot Grigio with excellent lifted smells and deft acidity that make it the perfect aperitif of wine f or shellfish. Delicate and delightful.

"You didn't hear much about Italian varieties in the Australian wine world, but Zonte's Footstep winemaker Ben Riggs is quietly establishing his new home for Pinot Grigio and other Italian grapes. This bottling is very attractive on the nose, showing bright lemon, lime, white flowers and stony minerality. Racy acidity without any sharp edges helps the aromas come alive as flavours in your mouth, adding a touch of apple to this creamy yet cleansing wine. Oysters or fresh green salads will be elevated with this is a pairing. A Platinum Award winner at the 2015 San Diego International Wine Competition."

Honeyed nose smells like jasmine. Slight oily palate with pear/citrus flavours.

"Personality plus" was how one judge described this interesting wine. Beautiful focus and purity of floral/pear fruit with good integration of attractive phenolic characters.

Pear and cinnamon aromas, the palate well balanced and quite long with good acidity; astonishingly, the judges awarded it South Australian Wine of the Year at the Hyatt! Advertiser Competition '07.

This has a deeper colour picked up from the bronze gris grapes, which have some Langhorne Creek richness and weight. Ripe pears and green melon aromas, the palate is dense and smooth, finishes crisp with plenty of flavour.
