Zonte's Footstep Scarlet Ladybird Rose

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Scarlet Ladybird sounds like a Russian spy, but it’s actually the name given to the ladybirds that eat all the bugs in this Langhorne Creek Vineyard and keep the vines in fabulous condition. This is a striking pink wine in the bottle, comprised of Grenache, Cabernet and Shiraz. On the nose it’s got a vivid perfume of summer berries before a zingy and refreshing palate of satsuma and fresh berries, it’s bursting with flavour and delivers a clean, fresh finish that’s dry and mouth-watering. It’s just the wine your fridge needs to be stocked with for successful summer drinking.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Scarlet red. Brilliant see-thru purple-pink indicating what follows.

Nose: Audacious array of aromatics always coming up roses. Veritable summer pudding of fresh berries, perfume spice dominated by strawberry and Campari-like cherry smells.

Palate: Super fresh and zesty with lip-smacking berry flavours. Medium-bodied, juicy fruited with touch of natural sweetness. Rolling red berry fruits and Satsuma plums with soft spice rounding out a lush mouthful. Flavoursome with fresh acidity and a tiny tweak of soft tannin taming the finish.

Food: A fine accompaniment to Asian cuisine, or dishes with a hint of chilli or lemongrass

Cellaring: It’s best to be drunk young on a picnic rug, but not just meant for summer.

Zar Brooks has not forgotten how to write a book and put it on the back label. Bright, light crimson; the gently spiced red fruit bouquet is followed by a palate packed with flavours in the same spectrum while keeping the wine focused and dry. This is a rose for all occasions, especially with food.
