Rochford Wines
Close
This Yarra Valley property was purchased by Helmut Konecsny in 2002; he had already established a reputation for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the family-owned Romsey Park vineyard in the Macedon Ranges (sold in 2010). Since '10, Helmut has focused on his Yarra Valley winery and vineyards. In addition to the cellar door, the property has two restaurants, a retail shop, and an expansive natural amphitheatre and observation tower - a showpiece in the region.
5 Stars - Halliday Wine Companion
Rochford wines is considered a showpiece for the Yarra Valley. This is due in part to its exceptional cellar door and restaurant set up, but also, and perhaps more significantly, because it's wine's set the standard for quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the cool climate region.
The wines are handcrafted using fruit sourced from four exceptional vineyards, and the single site wines produced from these vineyards are some of the finest expressions of the Yarra with beautiful balance and elegance. Their viticultural practices are based around maintaining balance in the vineyards, sustainability and responsiveness to changing environmental conditions. The winemaking philosophy of Rochford is to produce the best fruit possible in the vineyard, handle the fruit gently to preserve fruit character, minimise extraction and allow the wines to express the individuality of the vineyard and each growing season.
