Stephen Pannell | McLaren Vale, Australia

Steve radiates intensity and his extended experience has resulted in wines of the highest quality, right from the first vintage…The future for the Pannells is limitless, the icon status of the label already well established.’ - James Halliday

What else can one say about Stephen Pannell that hasn't already been said?

What accolade hasn’t he garnered in his most illustrious career. A two time winner of the country’s most prestigious wine award, the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, he’s resume reads like a who’s who of the domestic and international wine scene. Think Wirra Wirra, Hardy’s Tintara, Mouton Rosthchild in Bordeaux and Barolo’s G.D Vajra.

The man knows how to make wine. He now makes his home, and his cellar door in McLaren Vale, where he draws inspiration from the surrounding regions and when he has won best red wine of show at the Mclaren Vale Wine Show four times. Oh yes, there’s a Gourmet Traveller winemaker of the year in there somewhere too.

What makes his wines so great? We think it's the refined mix of approachability and character, his instinct for capturing what is in the vineyard and putting it into the glass. As Stephen says himself,  I try to create wines that suit our climate and our way of life - wines to drink with the food we grow, make and eat in Australia.’
