Like the song says, 'Come on, Eileen,' this wine is absolutely singing. Crafted by the renowned Hardys, it represents the pinnacle of their Shiraz range. Rated an impressive 95 points by James Halliday, this wine is a testament to the vineyards' rich history, dating back to the 1890s. It's the epitome of McLaren Vale, a wine that envelops you in depth and concentration, like a warm, generous hug in a glass.
A confluence of fruit planted in 1892 in Upper Tintara, together with McLaren Flat sourcing from the Elliot site, much of which is 57 years old. Fermented wild in open-tops before maturation in French oak (25% new) for 17 months. Powerful and heady, yet taut, spicy and introverted. White pepper and clove serve up first impressions. Blueberry, violet and a ferrous meatiness unravel with a workout in the glass. The finish is exceptionally long and detailed, if not drying and in need of time. This should come together very well. Powerful McLaren Vale Shiraz flavours of chocolate, smoked meats and freshly tilled earth with layers of plum, raspberry and blueberry fruits. Powerful and loaded with flavour but with wonderful restraint and poise on the palate. The highlight is the tannin balance, with incredibly fine lingering natural tannin providing structure that gives the wine outstanding length & persistence
